Description

Built in 1951 by Milwaukee Road’s Milwaukee Shops, these distinctive cars with small side panels and multiple rivet rows stand out in a crowd. 600 of these cars were built with 4’ swinging plug doors, bright orange paint and Milwaukee Road heralds for service transporting beer nationwide from the large Schlitz brewery in Milwaukee. The unusual extended sills were a trait of cars built for Schlitz service as they were used as a push point for moving the cars around the loading area with a tractor.

This particular model represents the cars rebuilt in 1960 in the 5000-5199 series with 8’2″ Youngstown doors and strengthened underframe with Universal rotary slack adjuster and is available with the colorful large Milwaukee Road herald decals and the later black outline herald as used on cars repainted by URTX. Decals for these rebuilds include DSDX, URTX, and MILW reporting marks to cover all three ownership eras. (Both sheets pictured are included)

In 1966 the cars were transferred to URTX and renumbered to the 10100-10296 series and later, around 1975, were moved to Milwaukee Road ownership with only the reporting marks changed, keeping their numbers.

This version is without roofwalks to represent cars from the 70s as they gradually had them removed to meet regulations.
